Gear Drives with Parallel Shaft These series are single-stage reduction or speed increasing gear drives. The casing are standardised in accordance with a series of likewise standardised center distance. The digits following the letter GN or GS as identification numbers indicate the center distance in centimeters. Types GN cover the smaller and medium transmission ratios, types GS the larger transmission ratios.
The adjacent power charts are valid for rotational speeds of at least 1000 rpm. For every intended application, it must be then checked that the pinion speed does not exceed the maximum permissible value, corresponding to the relevant transmission ratios, as shown graphically on the adjacent page.
When selecting a gear type, it must be remembered that these units are already dimensional for continuous operation. The intended load transmission must not therefore be increased further by any form of safety margin.
To obtain power and/or speed values beyond those indicated here, gear drives of the type GB or of special construction are recommended.
These series of gear stages find wide applications in the coupling of steam/gas turbines and compressors. The gear housings are sturdily built and so designed as to permit convenient accommodation of rotating parts.
